Job Title: District Multilingual Learner (ML) Coordinator and Lead Teacher

General Statement of Job

The District Multilingual Learner (ML) Coordinator and Lead Teacher position is a dual role in which at least 50% of the employee's time will be dedicated to coordinating ML servicing at the district level, and the other portion of time is dedicated to providing ML direct services to a caseload of students in a school setting. This position will report to the Deputy Superintendent of Accountability and Instruction.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

District Multilingual Learner Coordinator



Facilitate the development, implementation and articulation of the District's K-12 Language Instruction Educational Program (LIEP).



Create a standard protocol for onboarding new comer ML students



Coordinate professional development opportunities for ML teachers



Provide direct support and coordinate professional development for general education teachers that work with multilingual learners



Coordinate the district's communication efforts with our families of multilingual learners



Provide leadership and oversight in the development of English Language Development (ELD) programming and scaffolded content instruction through data analysis of ML performance and knowledge of current ELD research.



Conduct observations of ML teachers and provide support and feedback



Coordinate and oversee the identification process for Multilingual Learners



Work alongside the student data and accountability staff to maintain and monitor electronic and/or paper records for all students identified as Multilingual Learners.



Assist site principals and leadership teams with setting goals for improved instruction and monitoring of multilingual learner achievement data to make informed instructional decisions



Coordinate curriculum planning for multilingual learners, including reviewing standards-aligned instructional materials and software and assisting with piloting, adopting and implementing



Participate in training opportunities to develop and strengthen knowledge on current techniques in language acquisition, English Language Development, Long Term English Learner strategies and other related topics



Stay up-to-date with NCDPI's requirements for serving multilingual learners and communicate these requirements with appropriate staff



Work with the Director of Testing and Accountability to implement WIDA Screener and Access assessment



Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Multilingual Learner Lead Teacher



Provide direct support to a caseload of multilingual students



Work with school administration and general education teachers to implement best practices for serving ML students



Advocate for ML students in all aspects of their educational experience



Appropriately modify and adapt instruction for ML students



Serve as the liaison between the school and families of ML students



Qualifications:



Bachelor's degree in education or a related field



Current NC Teaching certificate, including ESL certification



Strong advocate for multilingual students and their families



Maintains an equity lens that elevates the voices of students and families from diverse cultural backgrounds



Strong communication and interpersonal skills



Ability to work independently and as part of a team



Preferred Qualifications:



5 or more years of experience teaching English Language Development



Experience working with Hispanic, Pacific Islander, Chinese and Ukrainian communities
