General Description: Provides support to the Resource Acquisition Support Specialist, Technical Services Librarian, and Library System Administrator for Central Library System (CLS) processes. Primarily responsible for copy-cataloging library materials for Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS), receiving materials, supporting online ordering, as well as providing support to school librarians using the Central Library System. Tasks performed are specific and recurring; work procedures are covered by oral or written instructions. Job Description: Essential Job Functions Copy-catalogs and processes library materials for CCPS libraries Assists with processing of Machine Access Readable Catalog (MARC) records to meet system standards for the online cataloging module Assists other staff members in Central Library Services Assists with basic book repairs Routinely shares CLS information with individuals, as requested, both inter-office and within CCPS Assists in the preparation and presentation of materials for use in seminars Assists the Resource Acquisition Support Specialist in fulfillment and quality control of processing and invoicing of orders in the online selection and acquisition system Provides support to school-based users of the Central Library System Participates, as directed, in the implementation of special projects Assists with the receipt and inventory of materials delivered to CTC@Hull for the Division of Technology Services,and communicates with personnel regarding the receipt and pickup of materials Performs other duties as assigned Budgetary Responsibility: N/A Report Preparation: N/A Equipment Operation: Hand cart, barcode scanner, calculator, computer, copier and fax, cover-bind machine. Contacts: This position has contact with school and office personnel and mail and delivery personnel. Work Direction/Supervision: N/A Decision Making: Performs majority of work tasks independently. Supervisor is consulted in unusual or complex situations. Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities: N/A Physical Demands: Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, reach overhead and move up to 50 lbs unassisted. Must be able to handle print objects and turn pages of a book. Work Environment: The employee regularly works in the Central Library Services office. The employee may be exposed to mold and dust. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate. Qualifications: Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to use the Central Library System. Knowledge of library procedures. Demonstrated skill in using computers and the Microsoft and Google suite of applications (specifically spreadsheets). Knowledge of basic accounting techniques. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to multi-task and work independently with minimum supervision at tasks that are specific and recurring. Demonstrated strong and sustained attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, librarians, and the public. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Knowledge of and ability to perform routine office procedures (typing correspondence, filing, answering phones, greeting and directing visitors courteously).
