MISSION: Girls on the Run Minnesota (GOTR MN) inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running
THE BOARD: The Board of Directors provides governance and fiduciary oversight and serves as a strategic partner in advancing GOTR MN’s mission and impact. Board members actively participate in strategic planning, organizational growth, and fundraising.

- Are passionate about the Girls on the Run mission and vision
- Bring experience in fundraising and marketing
- Serve as leaders and connectors in their communities

- Members of the GOTR MN Board of Directors are expected to:
- Provide governance, fiduciary oversight, and strategic guidance, including staying informed about GOTR MN’s mission, programs, financial health and policies
- Support fundraising efforts by making an annual personal gift and connecting GOTR MN to new partners, funders and donors
- Help guide and prioritize GOTR MN’s work to center belonging
- Engage in strategic planning and evaluation processes
- Actively participate in Board work and organizational activities, including:
- Attending and preparing for Board meetings (dates below)
- Serving on at least one standing committee (Finance, Governance, or Development)
- Participating in the annual performance and compensation review of the executive director
- Assisting in recruiting, nominating and orienting new Board members
- Upholding conflict of interest and confidentiality policies
- Engage in key organizational events, including:
- Serving as a Lead Volunteer at each fall and spring 5K
- Attending the annual Limitless Potential Luncheon
- Taking on special assignments as needed
EXPECTATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Board members serve a two-year term, beginning July 1, 2026. Terms are renewable, with a maximum of six consecutive years of service. The Board meets six times per year. In FY27, meetings include:
- Four virtual meetings: August 18, December 15, April 13, and June 15.
- Two in-person meetings in the Twin Cities:
- October 7 from 3 - 6 p.m.
- February 6 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
New Board member orientation will be held virtually on July 16 from 6-8 p.m. The estimated time commitment is approximately 10 hours per month.
Attendance: Board members are expected to attend at least 80% of Board meetings and major Board events.
