Role Description

Washington, D.C., nonprofit dedicated to saving and improving human and animal lives through plant-based diets and ethical and effective scientific research seeks a fundraising professional with at least 3 years of development experience to manage and grow our established legacy fundraising program. The position requires following a plant-based diet and semiannual travel to meet with donors and support fundraising events.

About the Role

Position Title/Job Function: Legacy Program Coordinator

    Position Objective: The Legacy Program Coordinator is responsible for managing a comprehensive planned giving program to secure charitable gifts through estates, trusts, gift annuities, and other deferred giving arrangements. This role involves:
  • Identifying, cultivating, and soliciting donors
  • Educating donors on various planned giving options
  • Providing training and support to other fundraising staff
  • Ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards
    Essential Functions
  • Manage the Lifetime Partner Program
  • Developing and Executing a Planned Giving Program:
  • Creating strategies, setting goals, and implementing marketing and outreach plans to attract planned giving donors
  • Identifying and Cultivating Donors:
  • Researching potential donors, qualifying gift prospects, and building relationships with individuals interested in making planned gifts
  • Soliciting and Securing Gifts:
  • Presenting planned giving options to donors, preparing proposals, and ensuring gifts are processed according to legal and ethical guidelines
  • Marketing Legacy Giving:
  • Creating and implementing multichannel marketing strategies to communicate with current Lifetime Partners and acquire new Lifetime Partners
  • Enhancing, monitoring, and maintaining the Physicians Committee's legacy giving website
  • Stewardship and Recognition:
  • Acknowledging and thanking donors for their planned gifts
  • Providing updates on PCRM's work
  • Recognizing donor contributions
  • Providing Expert Guidance:
  • Serving as a resource for donors and their advisers, explaining the various planned giving vehicles
  • Training and Support:
  • Providing training and support to other fundraising staff on planned giving strategies and best practices
  • Collaboration:
  • Collaborating with other development staff to set and achieve overall fundraising goals
  • Compliance:
  • Working closely with the bequest team to ensure all planned giving activities comply with legal and ethical standards
  • Maintaining accurate records of correspondence and actions taken
  • Reporting:
  • Communicating the status of planned giving activities to senior management and other stakeholders
  • Support Events:
  • Assisting the special events coordinator in planning and executing legacy-focused events
    Qualifications
  • All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Education:
  • Required: Bachelor's degree
  • Work Experience:
  • Required: Minimum of 3 years of development/fundraising experience
  • Preferred: Experience with planned giving, including bequests, gift annuities, and life insurance gifts
  • Marketing experience
  • Experience with Blackbaud database systems
  • Additional Qualities:
  • Having passion for our mission to promote plant-based diets and alternatives to the use of animals in research
  • Personally adhering to a plant-based (vegan) diet
  • Enjoying interacting with people and building positive relationships
  • Possessing strong attention to detail and being highly organized
  • Showing excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Being proficient in administrative software and tools, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat/PDF
    Requirements
  • Must be able to assist with event setup and breakdown, including occasional lifting of items up to 10 pounds
  • This position may be performed remotely from any location in the United States
  • Semiannual travel is required for donor engagement meetings, conferences, and staff development events
  • This is a full-time exempt position (40+ hours per week)
  • The Physicians Committee's core business hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, ET
  • This position requires meetings with donors and staffing events outside business hours

Salary

    A salary offer will take into consideration education, experience, and skills along with internal and external reference points. Candidates are encouraged to discuss salary with a position's hiring manager early in the interview process to ensure alignment.
  • Associate Level:
  • Minimum: $65,000
  • Maximum: $75,000
  • Coordinator Level:
  • Minimum: $75,000
  • Maximum: $85,000
  • Specialist Level:
  • Minimum Salary: $85,000
  • Maximum Salary: $98,000
