BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
In 2021, WFP efforts to helping countries to establish and maintain nationally owned programmes as well
as implementing school meals programmes with clear hand over strategies, were taken to the next level
with the launch of the School Meals Coalition at the Food Systems Summit.
For more than 60 years, WFP has been the leading organization in supporting countries with their school
meals programmes, which are widely prevalent throughout the world.
In 2020, WFP launched a 10-year strategy for school meals. WFP advocates for the universal adoption of
school meals programmes as a safety net that helps increase children's access to education and learning
opportunities and strengthens their health and nutrition status. WFP focuses increasingly on helping
countries to establish and maintain nationally owned programmes. In countries still requiring WFP's
operational support, it implements school meals programmes with clear hand over strategies.
WFP is seeking to hire a qualified and experienced individual to serve as Advocacy Officer for the School
Meals Coalition Secretariat Team, hosted at WFP, within the Nutrition, School Meals and Social
Protection Service. Reporting to the Head of Advocacy and Communications, she/he will be expected to
support the development and implementation of School Meals Coalition Secretariat's advocacy and
communications plans.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Liaise with WFP's African Union Global Office.(AUGO) to support the positioning of school
meals on the continental agenda. This includes analysis on strategic opportunities, including
policy processes, engagement around the annual Africa Day of School Feeding event and other
relevant AU events, as well as contributing on donor reporting.
2. Draft and coordinate key content for the WFP's flagship publication, the State of School Feeding
Worldwide report.
3. Draft advocacy materials, particularly event briefs and talking points.
4. Draft and update messaging pagers with latest evidence and policy discussions.
5. Contribute to team strategizing discussions and processes, including on policy analysis and
results measurement.
6. Perfom any other duties in support of the School Meals Coalition Secretariat's Advocacy &
Communications Team.

- High-quality content for chapter 2 of State of School Feeding Worldwide report, focused on the School Meals Coalition, including revisiting indicators and contributing to data visualization.
- Effective support for African Day of School Feeding, and timely advice and support on other relevant policy processes and external engagements at AU and global level.
- At least eight high-quality advocacy products, notably talking points and event briefs. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: -Education: First University degree in Social Science, Journalism, International Relations, PublicRelations, Communications or relevant field.Experience: 3+ year of related experience in communication, partnerships or advocacyKnowledge Prior experience in writing and editing long-form content, including but not limited& Skills: to articles, blogs, newsletters and managing social mediaWorking knowledge on UN communication products, writing standards andterminology is an asset.Mature judgment with strong interpersonal skillsCollaborative spirit able to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and acrossdifferent cultures and to act with credibility and diplomacyStrong time management skills with an ability to plan ahead, anticipaterequirements, problems and obstacles, and an ability to juggle competing prioritiessuccessfully, and to work to tight deadlinesSelf-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomyFully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the World Food ProgrammeLanguages: International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language.
