This position is open to current Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) employees only. This posting is not for an appointment but to fill a temporary, Working Out of Class (WOC) assignment. Initial duration for the WOC will be for 12 weeks, from approximately 7/28/2026 through 10/28/2026. Please note, WOC assignments are eligible for extension up to 26 pay periods and is subject to end with little to no notice, as needed.

OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL (OIG) - CAREER BROCHURE
As an Investigation Section Manager of the MDHHS OIG Integrity Division, this position is responsible for the investigative output of several regionally assigned investigative units, providing direction and support to reach fraud detection and investigation outcomes. The position assists the division director in the planning, development and direction of the Integrity Division’s statewide fraud investigation program, including fraud prevention and fraud investigations involving programs administered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) for referral for criminal prosecution and/or civil recovery and repayment actions.
These investigations may result in referral to law enforcement agencies (e.g., Attorney General Health Care Fraud Division) for criminal prosecution. This position supervises health care fraud unit managers who have regional responsibility for complex investigations into allegations of fraud, waste and abuse involving Michigan’s Health Services Programs, including Michigan’s Medicaid Program, Mental Health Program, MIChild Program and Children’s Special Health Care Services Program.
The position proposes division-wide goals and objectives and manages the field investigation program to attain desired results. This position monitors performance to achieve timely, accurate and appropriate actions by subordinate managers and staff. This position reviews investigative findings, manages a complex workload and investigative priorities, and ensures the accuracy of all investigation reports.
The position researches, develops, makes recommendations and carries out innovative methods and procedures for Integrity Division staff to meet changing legal programmatic requirements. The position administers Civil Service rules and regulations, labor contracts and personnel policies in the selection, evaluation and/or disciplining of subordinate managers and staff. The position acts as the Integrity Director in their absence.

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
Degree in Accounting, Criminal Justice, or a skilled medical related field, or a Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school is preferred.
Experience
Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.
One year of experience as health services fraud investigative unit manager is preferred.
Alternative Education and Experience
Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and three years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of the WOC assignment will be based on the selected candidate's county of residence. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered. Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
- Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:
- A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
- A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
- Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
As a Condition of Employment: this position requires successful completion of a background investigation and a criminal records check. Due to the nature of this position, an additional extensive background check will be conducted on candidates being considered for the vacancy.
