Description

The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership is hiring a full-time Communications Manager focused on lands and wildlife, with a strong emphasis on western states, public lands, wildlife health (including chronic wasting disease), and state-level storytelling, paying $70,000 to $75,000 per year. The role is hybrid from Missoula, Montana (if within commuting distance of the TRCP Western Office) or remote in the Western United States.

Founded in 2002, TRCP is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit working with 64 partner groups, its Corporate Council, and 140,000 members and supporters to guarantee all Americans quality places to hunt and fish. The organisation unites and amplifies partners’ voices by strengthening policy and funding around conservation, habitat, and access.

The Communications Manager works alongside TRCP’s conservation team, national communications team, and outside partners to develop and implement communications strategies that advance the organisation’s policy goals, drive online audiences to act, build advocates, and foster relationships with media influencers.

    Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of a strategic communications plan with TRCP program managers, field staff, and external partners.
  • Project manage innovative and effective communications campaigns advancing TRCP’s policy priorities.
  • Collaborate with field and communications teams to create, edit, and promote western-focused content including press statements, blogs, webpages, fact sheets, op-eds, and social media posts.
  • Use communications tactics to leverage internal expertise on the western conservation team and increase TRCP’s standing as a thought leader.
  • Coordinate with TRCP’s conservation and digital teams to mobilise sportsmen and sportswomen through targeted emails, online forms, and social media.
  • Coordinate with partners, including by serving on partner communication coalitions.
  • Foster existing and develop new relationships with national and local journalists and media influencers; serve as a spokesperson for conservation campaigns and pursue earned media.
  • Organise media events and interviews, promoting TRCP’s professional team of experts.
  • Use analytics to measure effectiveness of communications strategies and tactics, compiling metrics in reports as needed.
  • Serve as a thought partner with the entire TRCP Communications team.
    Requirements
  • At least five years of experience in communications, preferably with a portion in policy or advocacy work.
  • Strategic mindset with a demonstrated record of designing and implementing effective communications strategies.
  • Ability to summarise and simplify complex policy issues and explain them through engaging content.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with messages that resonate across political and geographic boundaries.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with field and communications staff.
  • Experience with content sequencing and campaign planning frameworks, not just individual content production.
  • Existing relationships with hunt-fish and mainstream media outlets and experience pitching stories and interviews.
  • Comfort with AI tools as part of a modern communications workflow.
  • Fluency with digital analytics including reach, engagement, and audience growth.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of the voice and values of the hunt-fish community and public lands.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using email databases, content management systems, and website publishing platforms.
  • Experience working for a nonprofit.
    Additional Notes
  • Hybrid from Missoula, Montana, if within commuting distance of the TRCP Western Office, or remote within the Western United States.
  • Benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance, 401(k), cell phone and home internet reimbursement, and ample paid time off.
  • Position open until filled.
