Who We Are

Frak Finance provides outsourced accounting, fractional CFO advisory, and M&A support for lower middle-market businesses.

We help owners, operators, and investors get clean, reliable financials so they can run and grow with confidence.

About the Role

We are hiring an experienced Fractional Controller (CPA required) to support businesses that operate with SEC-level reporting discipline and audit-ready financial standards.

This is not a routine accounting support role.

It is a high-ownership control function responsible for ensuring financial integrity, consistency, and defensibility across reporting cycles - without introducing friction into the business.

You will be expected to bring structure where it is missing, strengthen it where it exists, and ensure everything produced can withstand audit-level scrutiny at any time.

Following the initial engagement, this role may evolve into a trusted ongoing financial control partner, providing periodic oversight, reviews, and guidance as needed.

Responsibilities

    Accounting Oversight
  • Own and improve the month-end close process (cadence, accuracy, repeatability)
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for defensibility
  • Maintain clean balance sheet substantiation and workpapers (tie-outs should be easy to follow)
  • Strengthen internal controls and approval workflows where needed
  • Document processes so reporting is consistent month-over-month and not person-dependent
Audit / Reporting Support (SEC-style discipline)
  • Prepare audit-ready support (PBC-style schedules, tie-outs, documentation)
  • Coordinate with external auditors/advisors as applicable
  • Maintain accounting policy consistency and documentation
  • Identify issues early and propose practical fixes (not just observations)
    Reporting & Leadership Support
  • Produce a clean monthly reporting package leadership can use
  • Explain trends clearly and directly (what changed, why, what to do next)
  • Support cash visibility and operational reporting as needed
    What We’re Looking For
  • CPA required
  • Strong background in accrual accounting, month-end close, and controller-level reporting
  • SEC-regulated / audit-heavy environment experience required
  • Comfortable owning reconciliations, schedules, and financial statement review
  • Clear communicator with strong judgment and follow-through
    Professional & Collaboration Expectations
  • Strong executive-level written and verbal communication
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, and self-directed execution style
  • Comfortable leading or participating in client calls when required
  • Maintains appropriate availability and responsiveness during active close periods

Who This Is For

This role is for operators who:
  • Take pride in precision and financial integrity
  • Prefer structure, clarity, and control environments
  • Enjoy building systems that scale
  • Operate comfortably in high-expectation environments

If this feels like a strong match for how you think and work, we’d love to connect!
