Independent Contractor: Facilitator, Assessor, Critical Reviewer and Developer – Data Science (NQF 7)

The Position
We are seeking an experienced and adaptable External Contractor in Data Science to support the delivery and ongoing development of a commerce-focused Data Science qualification.
This is a multi-functional academic role, where you may be engaged, depending on operational needs and your expertise, in one or more of the following areas:
Facilitation
Assessment
Critical review of material
You will contribute to building a high-quality, applied Data Science learning experience that prepares students to operate effectively at the intersection of data, technology, and business decision-making.
Depending on allocation, responsibilities may include:
Facilitation
Facilitate engaging, student-centred online learning
Guide students through complex data science concepts
Support student learning through discussion and academic support
Assessment
Assess student submissions in line with academic standards
Provide clear, constructive, and developmental feedback
Ensure consistency and fairness in marking
Critical Review of material
Critical review of qualification and material
Contribute to the design or revision of:
Learning materials
Assessments
Module content
Ensure content is current, applied, and aligned with industry practice

Education & Experience Requirements
A relevant Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems or a relevant field (NQF 8)
Teaching, tutoring, or facilitation experience in higher education or professional learning environments
Demonstrated knowledge of data analytics concepts and tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python, R, or similar)
Strong analytical, communication, and feedback skills
Excellent organisational and time-management abilities
Familiarity with online learning platforms and digital engagement tools
A passion for student learning, development, and academic quality
Work Environment Requirements
Stable, high-speed internet access (preferably fibre)
A quiet, professional home working environment suitable for remote teaching
