About the Role
We're seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our team of talented professionals in Video Calculations. As a key member of our team, you'll play a crucial role in driving innovation and excellence in video encoding and processing. Your expertise will help us tackle complex challenges and develop cutting-edge solutions that enhance the viewing experience for millions of users worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and prototype encoding algorithms and programming workflows that improve video quality or reduce data transmission requirements.
- Identify areas for improvement in existing workflows and codec executions, and develop innovative solutions to address these challenges.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring your ideas from concept to reality.
- Participate in research on advanced picture and video coding, and engage with academic research groups and industry experts.
- Work on exciting video encoding projects that make Netflix content smoother, crisper, and more captivating for our global audience.
About You:
We're looking for a highly motivated and experienced professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. If you're passionate about video encoding and processing, and have a strong background in software development, we'd love to hear from you.
Essential Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in video and audio programming development, with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field; MS or PhD a plus.
- Strong proficiency in Python, Java, and object-oriented programming.
- Deep understanding of video compression and processing, including codec principles like H.264/AVC, HEVC, and AV1.
- Strong foundation in image and signal processing, including calculation design and execution (e.g., image scaling, deinterlacing, frame rate conversion, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with large-scale distributed systems and cloud computing.
- Experience with programming performance optimization.
- Contributions to open-source video projects (e.g., ffmpeg, x264, avisynth, webm).
- Experience with image and video quality assessment.
