Overview: This position will play a key role in designing, developing, and implementing advanced analytics and detection capabilities to support the Financial Investigations Unit, with a primary focus on insider threat and emerging financial crime risks. The role is responsible for leading complex, project-based analytical initiatives, including the development of detection scenarios, identification of anomalous behaviors, and translation of regulatory and intelligence-driven priorities into actionable analytics. The individual will partner across business, technology, and risk teams to assess emerging threats, develop scalable solutions, and enhance the organization’s ability to proactively detect and mitigate risk. Primary Responsibilities: Design, develop, and enhance analytic rules, detection scenarios, and data-driven monitoring strategies to identify potential insider threat activity, including unauthorized account access, misuse of systems, and anomalous employee behaviors. Perform complex data analysis across large, disparate datasets to identify patterns, trends, and emerging risks related to financial crime, including money laundering typologies and insider threat indicators. Translate regulatory guidance, including FinCEN advisories and internal risk priorities, into actionable analytics, detection logic, and investigative frameworks. Lead project-based analytical initiatives focused on emerging risks, including new fraud and money laundering schemes, and contribute to the development of enterprise detection capabilities. Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., Financial Crimes, Fraud, Technology, Data Office) to define requirements, validate detection outcomes, and implement analytics into production environments. Synthesize complex analytical findings into clear, concise deliverables (e.g., white papers, presentations, executive-level summaries) to support decision-making and risk strategy development. Lead continuous improvement efforts by refining detection logic, optimizing analytic processes, and identifying opportunities to enhance data quality, coverage, and efficiency. Support internal audits, regulatory inquiries, and model/detection validation efforts by documenting methodologies, assumptions, and outcomes in a clear and defensible manner. Act as a subject matter contributor for analytics supporting insider threat detection and BSA/AML investigations, including providing guidance to junior analysts and business partners. Adhere to applicable compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with Company and regulatory standards. Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
