About the position
- Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate wildlife health-related research and initiatives.
- Serve as the principal point of contact for wildlife health research with academic and state agencies.
- Lead the development of a One Health Environmental Research Laboratory and Training Center.
- Advise on emerging wildlife diseases and provide policy support to DEC and partners.
- Supervise the Wildlife Health Program, including grants, contracts, and budgets.
- Manage the Wildlife Resources Center and ensure lab safety and productivity.
- Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in biology, zoology, veterinary science, or related field and four years of professional experience in a relevant scientific field.
- Supervisory experience and documented training in management.
- Strong knowledge of wildlife diseases, anatomy, physiology, and forensics.
- Experience with biological tissue preparation and laboratory quality assurance practices.
- Computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets.
- Experience in scientific research design and data collection.
- Nice-to-haves
- Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant field for additional experience substitution.
- Knowledge of field biology data collection methods.
- Public speaking skills and experience in scientific publication.
