About the position
- Responsibilities
- Audit and manage approximately 25% of the Forms I-9 and E-Verify verifications completed each year.
- Complete approximately 10,000 E-Verify verifications for all university hires each year.
- Monitor work authorization expiration dates and determine continued employment eligibility.
- Audit Forms I-9 for proper completion and compliance with federal and state laws/regulations.
- Provide guidance and ongoing consultation to I-9 preparers and others responsible for certifying I-9 forms.
- Conduct monthly in-person I-9/E-Verify training sessions.
- Represent the university in cases of internal or external audits or inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with I-9 and E-Verify requirements to prevent unlawful employment practices.
- Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Previous experience completing Forms I-9.
- Knowledge of Form I-9 and E-Verify laws and regulations.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to handle difficult situations professionally.
- Strong organization, time management, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse customer base and staff members at all levels.
- Excellent computer skills, including experience with MS Word, Excel, and HR information systems.
- Nice-to-haves
- Prior experience evaluating/auditing Forms I-9 and employment eligibility documentation.
- Experience with electronic I-9 systems (i.e., E-Verify and LawLogix).
- Prior experience in a large, complex higher education or public sector setting.
- Experience compiling and reporting HR Metrics.
- Prior experience making presentations to small and large groups.
