Are you a hands-on Engineering Manager with the leadership skills to guide a team delivering and supporting business-critical applications across a diverse technology stack, including Node.js/React, Python, SQL Server, and cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)?

In this role, you'll provide technical leadership for legacy platforms, specifically ColdFusion (CFML) and Windows C++ desktop and service-based applications, with a strong focus on reliability, maintainability, and pragmatic modernization.

Engineering Managers in our organization balance people leadership, delivery ownership, and technical strategy, while remaining close enough to the technology to unblock teams, resolve complex issues, and lead by example.

Key Responsibilities:

People Leadership & Team Execution
Lead, coach, and mentor engineers; foster a culture of ownership, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement
Drive predictable delivery through effective planning, execution, risk management, and cross-team coordination
Remove blockers through active technical engagement, including debugging, design reviews, and rapid problem resolution

Technical Leadership (Hands-on “Player/Coach”)
Provide architecture and design leadership to ensure solutions are scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable
Conduct code and design reviews, reinforcing engineering best practices and sound system design
Deep dive into complex production issues across frontend, backend, and database layers to restore service and prevent recurrence

Modern Web Development (NodeJS / React / Python / SQL Server)
Lead development and ongoing support of NodeJS services/APIs and React web applications with clean, extensible architecture
Oversee SQL Server data design and performance, including schema design, complex queries, stored procedures, and tuning
Ensure strong API integration patterns (RESTful and internal services), resiliency, and secure-by-design practices

Cloud Leadership (Azure & GCP)
Lead engineering execution across Azure and GCP environments, including deployment readiness, operational reliability, and scalability
Promote engineering practices aligned with hosted and cloud-native architectures, high availability, and operational excellence

Legacy Systems Leadership (ColdFusion & Windows C++)
Provide technical leadership for ColdFusion applications (CFML, CFCs, custom tags, modular design), including integration with modern web stacks
Lead support and modernization of Windows C++ desktop and service-based applications, including debugging, performance optimization, and reliability improvements
Guide teams working within legacy codebases while implementing practical modernization steps and maintainable architectures

Delivery, Tooling, and Release Discipline
Ensure structured engineering workflows using Git-based version control and disciplined release processes
Partner closely with QA, Product, Infrastructure, and business stakeholders to maintain high quality and release readiness across environments

Hands-on leadership: Engages directly in code, design, and production issues to unblock teams when needed
Execution discipline: Manages delivery predictably while balancing risk, quality, and stakeholder expectations
Pragmatic modernization mindset: Stabilizes legacy platforms while progressing toward cleaner, more maintainable architectures
Strong communication: Clearly translates complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences

Leadership & Project Management
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and foster collaboration
Strong project leadership experience managing multiple initiatives and complex service delivery aligned with business objectives
Agile Product Management or Agile Leadership certification is highly preferred

Work Environment:
Ability to sit at a desk, utilize a computer, telephone, and other basic office equipment is required. This role is designed to be a remote position (work-from-home).

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Technology degree preferred
