About the Brand:

I am launching Datum Skateboards, a premium brand that bridges the gap between high-end cartography and skateboard culture. Our aesthetic is technical, minimalist, and artistic. We create "functional art" that looks as good on a garage art wall as it does at a skatepark.

The Project:

I need a professional illustrator/designer to create the artwork for our debut deck: The San Francisco Elevation Series. The core of the graphic will be a sophisticated topographical map of San Francisco.

Design Specifics:

  • Visual Style: High-contrast, minimalist line art. Think thin, precise contour lines (similar to a USGS topo map) in a [Gold or White or Green or Red] on [Black/Matte] color scheme.
  • Key Features: The design must incorporate the unique topographical layout of San Francisco (hills, coastline, and street grid) and the "Datum Skateboards" logo.
  • Technical Requirements: The final artwork must be delivered as a vector file (Adobe Illustrator .AI or .EPS). It needs to be formatted for a standard skateboard deck template (approx. 9" x 34" with bleed).

Deliverables:

1. Initial concept sketch/layout for approval.

2. Final polished vector art.

3. Print-ready files formatted to the manufacturer's template.

Who I’m Looking For:

I want a designer who has a passion for technical illustration or architectural design. You don't necessarily need to be a skater, but you must have an eye for clean, consistent line work.

Long-Term Opportunity:

This is the first in a "City Series." If this project is successful, I intend to work with the same artist to create maps for NYC, London, Tokyo, and more to maintain a consistent brand identity.

Note to Applicants: To ensure you’ve read this brief, please include the name of your favorite San Francisco landmark in your proposal. Thanks!
