Role Description

This role involves coding for Acute Care with a focus on Inpatient Procedure Coding.
• Responsible for accurate and timely assignment of ICD-10 CM/PCS and HCPCS/CPT codes.
• Conduct data abstraction for reimbursement purposes and statistical information reporting.
• Review and interpret patient records to assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes.
• Perform coding and abstracting tasks to support billing, data quality, and statistics.
• Apply information from diagnostic reports to accurately code patient charts.
• Abstract pertinent data, determine and sequence codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Utilize coding and abstracting system for communication and management queries.
• Provide vital coded and abstracted information for final coding and billing of accounts.
• Review and make necessary changes to pre-populated patient demographic information.

Qualifications
• Knowledge of ICD-10-PCS Inpatient Procedure Coding and CPT Coding Guidelines and Principles.
• College Diploma in Medical Coding or one year coding experience in a healthcare environment required.
• Associate or Bachelor Science degree in Health Information Technology preferred.
• Strong knowledge base of anatomy and physiology and medical terminology.
• Working knowledge of pathophysiology and basic pharmacology.
• Knowledge of Official Inpatient and Outpatient Coding Guidelines.

Requirements
• Inpatient/Acute Care Coding experience is required.
• ICD-10-PCS inpatient Procedure Coding experience in an acute care facility is mandatory.
