Interim CFO, New York,
CFO Recruit is partnering with a professional services business to engage an Interim or Fractional CFO, this could be a near full time position for 3-6 months and is fully remote. Candidates must be open to work on a W2 basis or through their own corporation. The engagement will be a mix of tactical day to day oversight and strategic input requiring a hands-on leader who can oversee the accounting and finance function whilst also providing insight to the leadership team and supporting data driven decision making. This role would suit a VP Finance or Director of Finance open to an interim engagement. The interim CFO will embed robust processes and controls and implement improvements to reporting, month end close and the budget process. The interim CFO will work collaboratively, cross functionally and partner closely with the leadership team to put in place strong processes and a foundation on which to scale the business.
- The interim CFO will have the following remit:
- Assume executive-level ownership of the finance function
- Assess the current state of financial operations and implement immediate improvements
- Review and improve month-end close processes and drive consistency and accuracy in financial reporting
- Ensure integrity of the P&L and balance sheet across all entities
- Manage cash-to-accrual accounting conversion
- Provide oversight of multi-entity compliance across US and Europe
- Ensure payroll compliance across approximately 20 states, including nexus analysis
- Provide oversight on tax strategy and compliance, flagging any risk areas
- Standardize and improve commission calculation process
- Establish documented SOPs for AR and AP functions
- Advise on long-term organizational design for the finance department
- Build financial forecasting and budgeting discipline across the organization
- Translate financial data into clear, business-oriented narratives for leadership
- Mentor accounting and finance staff providing coaching and structure
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to the CEO and senior leadership team
- Skills/Experience required:
- Proven track record as a CFO, VP Finance, Director of Finance or senior finance executive in growth-stage, entrepreneurial companies
- Prior experience in fractional or interim CFO engagements strongly preferred
- Deep familiarity with multi-entity, multi-currency accounting environments
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks preferred
- Demonstrated ability to build or rebuild finance processes from the ground up
- Experience with international entity compliance
- Exposure to professional services, SaaS, or similarly structured businesses preferred but not required
