Legislative Intern (Graduate Student)
About the position
- Responsibilities
- Assist in grassroots organizing and advocacy efforts
- Analyze policies, programs, and regulations that affect the 50+ population
- Support the production and dissemination of correspondence with volunteers, members, activists, and the legislature
- Work directly with volunteers and staff to represent AARP at local events, including forums, news conferences, and rallies spotlighting AARP issues
- Monitor publications and news media for legislative issues of interest
- Deliver educational and advocacy materials to legislative and/or campaign offices
- Conduct qualitative and/or quantitative research, as needed, and research candidates and related events
- Other related duties, as assigned
- Requirements
- Prospective interns must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university, be considered graduate or post-doctoral students, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship
- Must be a self-starter and adaptable, with the ability to work under tight deadlines
- Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
- Ability to work well with diverse populations, including gender, race, and sexual orientation
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
- Familiarity with creating and editing videos and knowledge of multiple social media platforms is a plus
- Benefits
- Hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates
- Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits
