About the position

    Responsibilities
  • Greets patients and family members, obtains and verifies demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information during the pre-registration process.
  • Accepts point of service payments and provides guidance for payment options.
  • Enters patient information accurately into hospital information systems.
  • Refers patients with questions regarding financial liability to appropriate resources.
  • Processes key documents to facilitate obtaining insurance information and provides payment estimates for out-of-pocket costs.
  • Educates patients/families on the use of registration kiosks or online systems.
  • Identifies routine issues and escalates them to the Lead Patient Access Concierge.
  • Maintains compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements throughout all activities.
  • Performs insurance eligibility/benefit verification utilizing EDI transactions and payer web access.
  • Provides financial information and patient payment options, collecting appropriate patient liabilities at the point of service.
  • Communicates with various ancillary departments to ensure smooth patient flow and high data integrity.
  • Cross trains in various functions to assist in the timely delivery of department services.
    Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a hospital, clinic, insurance company, or healthcare financial service setting.
  • Knowledge of insurance and governmental programs, regulations, and billing processes is highly desired.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology preferred.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, data entry skills, and organizational abilities.

  • Completion of regulatory/mandatory certifications and skills validation competencies preferred.
