Production Underwriter | Workers' Compensation Insurance - Remote (WFH) Opportunity
General Summary
The Production Underwriter is responsible for driving profitable growth in workers' compensation insurance by combining strong agency relationship management with disciplined underwriting expertise. Acting as the primary point of contact for assigned agencies, the Production Underwriter develops new business opportunities in their assigned territory, retains profitable accounts, and ensures alignment with company strategies and risk appetite. This position requires both external-facing production skills and technical underwriting judgment to achieve sustained growth and profitability.
- Responsibilities
- Underwriting & Account Management of workers' compensation insurance policies
- Underwrite new and renewal workers' compensation insurance accounts within delegated authority.
- Evaluate account characteristics, prior loss experience, industry class codes, and overall risk quality to determine acceptability and pricing.
- Establish appropriate terms, conditions, and coverage limits to ensure profitability.
- Proactively manage renewals and key accounts, including direct agency engagement to support retention and profitability.
- Deliver timely quotes, negotiate pricing and terms, issue declinations when necessary, and ensure consistent follow-up.
- Monitor overall book performance and make recommendations for corrective actions when needed.
- Agency Relationship Management & Production
- Serve as the single underwriting and relationship contact for assigned agencies.
- Drive new business growth in assigned territory through prospecting, pipelining, and prequalifying opportunities aligned with company appetite.
- Build and maintain strong agency partnerships through proactive communication, training, and support on appetite, eligibility, and system processes.
- Conduct agency planning and performance reviews, including retention, production, and profitability discussions.
- Territory Ownership & Strategic Collaboration
- Take ownership of assigned states/territories, driving new business production and monitoring trends in submissions, hit ratios, agency performance, and loss experience.
- Participate in tactical planning to address underperforming agencies and territories while capitalizing on growth opportunities.
- Industry & Compliance
- Stay current on state-specific workers' compensation regulations, filing requirements, and industry developments.
- Ensure compliance with all underwriting guidelines, company standards, and applicable regulations.
- Provide input into underwriting initiatives, product development, and process improvements.
- Other Duties
- Travel to agency offices, conferences, and industry events may be needed to achieve results
- Provide support and guidance to less experienced team members, contributing to a culture of knowledge sharing and consistency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated success in driving new business, retention, and agency relationship management.
- Three or more years of underwriting experience in property/casualty lines preferred.
- Professional designations or other insurance-related coursework preferred.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and relationship-building skills with both internal teams and external agency partners.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and underwriting systems; ability to adapt quickly to new applications.

- Working Conditions:
- Remote: This role is remote, and only open to candidates currently located in the United States and able to work without sponsorship.
- It requires a suitable space that provides a private and quiet workplace.
- Expected Work Hours: Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
- Travel: May be required to travel to off-site location(s) to attend meetings, as necessary
