[Remote] Assistant General Counsel, Consumer Protection & External Affairs

Strategic Education, Inc. is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to provide legal advice and serve as in-house counsel on various matters. The role involves assisting with federal regulatory matters, litigation, and providing legal analysis on policy matters.
- Responsibilities
- Assist with federal regulatory matters related to two accredited institutions of higher education
- Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings to which the company is a party
- Provide legal analysis and advice to administrators on policy matters, especially regulatory compliance issues
- Investigate legal issues and recommend action to administrators
- Negotiate and draft contracts: draft legal documents and policies
- Research federal and state legal questions
- Assist with general corporate matters
- Review university programs, procedures, and policies for legal compliance
- Provide legal and compliance training to in-house clients
- Skills

- Excellent analytical, oral, and written communications skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong computer/word processing skills, including knowledge of standard Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability and willingness to apply independent judgment in a dynamic environment
- At least three years of experience in the practice of law
- Bachelor's degree and JD from an ABA-accredited law school
- Bar admission, or ability to become admitted, in one or more of the following jurisdictions: Virginia, Minnesota, Maryland, or Washington, DC
- Must be able to travel 10% of the time
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs
- Typical office setting
- Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor
- Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job
- Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant
- Access information using a computer
- Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain
