Tax Attorney (State & Local Tax – SALT) Taxation Practice Group | Top AmLaw 100 Law Firm A nationally recognized Top AmLaw 100 law firm is seeking an experienced Tax Attorney to join its growing Taxation Practice Group, with a primary focus on State and Local Tax (SALT) matters. This firm continues to expand rapidly, reporting $1.28B in gross revenue in 2024 and recently naming 18 new partners: creating outstanding opportunities for long-term career growth. This is a team-based, collegial, and client-focused environment where attorneys are supported in building sophisticated practices and meaningful client relationships. Office Locations: Qualified candidates may be considered for the following offices: Chicago Dallas Detroit Los Angeles Milwaukee New York San Diego San Francisco / Silicon Valley Washington, D.C.
- Responsibilities
- Advise clients on all facets of multistate taxation , including income, franchise, and sales/use tax matters
- Handle state tax controversy matters, audits, and appeals
- Provide tax planning and structuring support for transactions and reorganizations
- Assist with remediation of state tax exposure in M&A and other transactional contexts
- Collaborate with cross-practice teams on complex client matters
- Experience with unclaimed property and escheatment matters (Preferred)
- Requirements
- 5–9 years of substantial experience in SALT matters
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school
- Strong academic credentials
- Prior AmLaw 100 experience strongly preferred
- Active Bar membership in good standing (or ability to obtain timely admission in the office jurisdiction)
- Demonstrated strength in client service, project management, and senior-level review
- Positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent work ethic
