Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Tutor (Level 2) to join our team at Onondaga Community College's Learning Center. As a tutor, you will play a vital role in helping students achieve academic success by providing individualized support and guidance in a specific course or discipline. Key Responsibilities:


  • Tutor students in a course or discipline of expertise, providing individualized support and guidance to help students understand key concepts and achieve academic success.

  • Work with students who may be experiencing difficulties or stress, providing a supportive and non-judgmental learning environment.

  • Help students develop self-confidence and independence in their learning, by providing positive feedback, encouragement, and helpful tools.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of tutoring sessions, and participate in periodic training and staff meetings.

  • Collaborate with course instructors and departments to ensure that tutoring services align with course requirements and learning objectives.

Requirements:


  • Earned Associate's degree or higher in a related field of study.

  • Final grade of B+ (3.3 GPA) or higher in the course(s) you wish to tutor, or equivalent related coursework at another regionally accredited institution.

  • Overall Cumulative GPA of B (3.0 GPA) or higher.

  • Written recommendation from a professor or faculty member in the course/discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Ability to tutor multiple courses.

  • Higher-level coursework in the discipline than that which you wish to tutor.

  • Prior experience working with students one-on-one or in small groups.

  • Experience working with diverse populations, including those learning the English language.

  • Participation in College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) certification training.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, or English and another language.

Work Details:


  • Location: Remote (Syracuse, NY)

  • Compensation: $19.00 per hour

  • Start Date: Immediate openings available

  • Hours: Flexible, minimum of 5 hours per week
