Job description: The EXCEL Student Learning Support department exists to provide efficacious, timely, and intentional individual and group study spaces where CCD students can be supported in learning and collaboration. The EXCEL Zone provides robust 1:1, group, and embedded tutoring support in Math/Stats/Physics, Writing, ESL, and Digital Literacy through in-person and remote tutoring with a commitment to cultivating self-reliant learners.

Duties and Responsibilities

Tutors are expected to:
·Foster a conducive learning environment by greeting students with a positive and welcoming attitude
·Work professionally with students and staff from a variety of cultural and academic backgrounds
.Effectively assist students in learning concepts related to Math, Statistics, and Physics in a variety of applications
.Develop students' critical thinking skills through modeling and guided work.

Qualifications

Minimum education, experience, and skills
.Tutoring and/or teaching experience is preferred, but not required.
In order to progress through the hiring process, candidates must:
·Document excellence (A or B) in College Algebra (MAT 1340) as well as successful completion (A or B) of at least one MAT course beyond College Algebra. Ability in tutoring all lower college level Math courses
·Willing to maintain current skills and practices in the field
·Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, D2L, Webex, and (or proficient in technology and willing to learn)
·Communicate clearly and flexibly.
.Excellent customer service skills
·Ability to strictly adhere to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: (required/minimum)
·Experience in tutoring the following Math and Physics courses: Statistics, Trigonometry, Pre-Calc., Calc. I, Calc. II, Calc III, Linear Alg., Diff. Equation, Physics Alg. Based II, Physics calc. based I, and Physics Calc. Based II
·Study skills knowledge, or willingness to learn
·Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, D2L, Webex, and WeVideo (or similar video editing technology)
·Customer service background
·Experience working in an urban minority-majority college
.Demonstrated ability to work individually and within a team.
.Knowledge of a second language.

Preferred Qualifications

This position is a part-time position with the Community College of Denver and therefore, is a non-benefit eligible position.
